Leaders of the golf hospitality industry are arriving in the Algarve, Portugal, as the final preparations are put in place for the World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony 2016.

Hundreds of thousands of ballots have been cast ahead of the ceremony with the best destinations, tour operators, golf courses and hotels set to be recognised at the event.

The Gala Ceremony will be staged at the luxurious Conrad Algarve for the third successive year on November 11th-13th.

World Golf Awards Managing Director Christopher Frost said: “With so much work having gone into our annual Gala Ceremony it is a pleasure to begin welcoming guests here to the Conrad Algarve.

“Our Gala Ceremony on Saturday is sure to be the highlight in golf hospitality this year but there is also a full programme of golf, networking and events taking place over the weekend. This is what makes the World Golf Awards the success it has grown to become.”

Event partner Quinta do Lago will offer World Golf Awards guests a chance to enjoy its three award-winning championship golf courses – the South Course, Laranjal and the North Course, which was co-designed by Beau Welling and European Ryder Cup-winning captain Paul McGinley.

Each has been expertly designed to complement its natural surroundings, while offering its own set of unique challenges.

World Golf Awards has also recently revealed Conrad Algarve, the most modern five-star hotel in Portugal, will host its Gala Ceremony 2016.

The property is a uniquely styled luxury hotel, with everything from the guest rooms and private balconies, to the majestic spa and five individual restaurants offering flourishes of sophistication.

"The Conrad Algarve is extremely proud to be hosting the World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony for the third consecutive year,” said Conrad Algarve General Manager Joachim Hartl.

"It was a pleasure to be part of the first two editions of such a prestigious event in which Portugal was inclusively awarded as the World’s Best Golf Destination, a relevant recognition for golf and the hospitality industry in particular for the Algarve region as one of the leading golf destinations.

"The Conrad Algarve team will be delighted to welcome all participants and make the most of this evening that will take place on November 12th 2016.”

About World Golf Awards

World Golf Awards serves to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world class courses and golf destinations.

Golf tourism constitutes a vital segment in the global travel and tourism marketplace. An estimated 60 million golfer visits will take place in 2016 to the 32,000 golf courses and resorts worldwide.

The 2016 World Golf Awards will focus on the leading 130 nations who are shaping the future of this dynamic industry.

While celebrating and rewarding excellence across golf resorts, courses and the golfing destinations throughout the world, World Golf Awards will strive to ultimately raise the golf tourist customer experience and stimulate both the domestic and international golf tourism market.

Votes will be made by professionals working within the golf travel and tourism industry – senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents and media professionals. Votes may also be cast by the public (golf tourism consumers).

The voting works on a first-past-the-post system to ensure impartiality and independence. Votes are submitted online via the World Golf Awards website.

The winners of each national category will go head-to-head with the winners of the other countries before the unveiling of the World Winners.
