One of the leading golfing establishments in Cambodia has launched a new initiative that seeks to boost female participation in the sport.

The Vattanac Ladies Golf Development Programme intends to create a safe haven for ladies to practise, learn and develop their golf games with a qualified instructor in a stress-free environment, according to the Vattanac Golf Resort.

This new initiative was the product of last month’s Vattanac Ladies Golf Month, which was held in correlation with the global Troon Women’s Golf Month.

The ladies clinics every Sunday during the month of June turned out to be of great success with many ladies being introduced to the game of golf, according to the establishment.

“It was great to witness the interest in the ladies golf clinics in June. There are a lot of women who have friends or family members who play golf, which creates that initial interest, but they didn`t really knew how to get started and that is exactly what we offered during the Vattanac Ladies Golf Month; a friendly open environment with an easy approach to get familiar with the game of golf,” David Lamprecht, Head Golf Professional at Vattanac Golf Resort, said.

From there, Vattanac Golf Resort started the Ladies Golf Development Programme.

The programme commenced on July 11. Golfing sessions are held every Sunday under the guidance of Lamprecht. Ladies are welcome to join at any Sunday and the programme will run indefinitely.

“The programme is for ladies of all skill levels and has already gained a lot of interest since the news of its inception. It covers all the basics of the game of golf, starting right at the very beginning with grip, alignment, setup and posture, to covering all aspects of the long and short game. The ladies will be divided into skill set groups which will then allow them to practise and play with other ladies within their skill level,” Lamprecht said.

“Playing golf on a golf course can be quite intimidating and frustrating without the correct skill level. I am so excited to start this initiative here at Vattanac Golf Resort and I am delighted to see the interest in the programme,” he added. “Those who are interested in joining the programme can contact the resort’s reception at 023963369.”

Located in Phnom Penh, the Nick Faldo-designed resort is one of the top golf courses in the country. Last year, the World Golf Awards named Vattanac Golf Resort as the best golf course in Cambodia.

There is an increasing number of golf courses across Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other provinces, and more Cambodians are playing the sport according to local media reports.

Last year, Cambodia won the undiscovered golf destination of the year award from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators or IAGTO.
