Top officials from the Ministry of Interior recently engaged their counterparts from the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia in a friendly golf tournament.

The 1st Annual Ministry of Interior vs China Embassy Friendship Tournament was held over the weekend at the Vattanac Golf Resort in Phnom Penh.

The tournament was held as part of efforts to strengthen the relationship between Cambodia and China, which is the Kingdom’s biggest investor and benefactor.

During the tournament, 18 members of the Ministry of Interior Golf Association (MIGA) played several rounds of golf with 13 officials from the Chinese Embassy.

Minister of the Interior Sar Kheng and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian were among the participants.

“We’re honored to be able to witness participants from the two countries enjoy a friendly tournament and good relations with each other throughout the day,” MIGA said in a post on its Facebook page.

The tournament was sponsored by the General Department of Immigration, Seatel, Golden Cambodia Century, Union Group Dara Sakor, Huawei Cambodia, Cake Experiential Communica- tions and Boncafe.

This is the second tournament that the MOI has held with a foreign embassy this month.

On July 11, the MIGA hosted the 2nd Ministry of the Interior vs Japan Embassy Friendly Tournament at the Vattanac Golf Resort.

The Vattanac Golf Resort, in a statement posted on its Facebook page, said it was happy to host the tournament.

Designed by British golfing legend Nick Faldo and managed by Troon, the world’s largest gold club management firm, the Vattanac Golf Resort is among the best golf courses in Cambodia. The resort is also among the nominees in this year’s World Golf Awards.

“We were honoured to host the 1st Annual Ministry of Interior vs China Embassy Friendship Tournament under Ministry of Interior Golf Association. We congratulate all winners and look forward to welcoming them back at Vattanac Golf Resort,” it said.

Golf is becoming increasingly popular in the Kingdom, with more venues and people playing the sport than ever before. From a mere four golf courses in 2008, there are now more than 10 across the Kingdom.

Cambodia has also started to host major international golf tournaments, such as the Asia Golf Championship, that was held at the Angkor Golf Resort and Sofitel.
