Meet the winner

A remarkable journey from the driving range to golfing greatness, Miguel Ángel Jiménez's story embodies the spirit of perseverance and passion for the game. Born in Malaga as one of seven brothers, his golf career began humbly at age 15, collecting range balls and caddying at a local course. It was there, watching the Spanish Open, that he first dreamed of joining the ranks of professional golfers.

Turning professional at 18, Jiménez qualified for the European Tour (now DP World Tour) in 1989, marking the beginning of an extraordinary career. His achievements include:

  • 21 tournament victories across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East
  • Victory at the prestigious BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth (2008)
  • Historic Spanish Open win at age 51, making him the oldest winner in DP World Tour history
  • 13 PGA Champions Tour victories since becoming eligible in 2014
  • Four Ryder Cup appearances, contributing to European victories at Oakland Hills (2004) and Celtic Manor (2010)

The World Golf Awards recognises Miguel Ángel Jiménez's exceptional contributions to the sport with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating a career that continues to inspire golf enthusiasts worldwide.
